Delightful Damsel

August 12, 2017

I hadn't seen a single damselfly species at Sustead Common, until this afternoon that is - it's almost like they can smell the water! I went in the hope that I might photograph the superb Southern Hawker dragonflies that have been around for a few weeks. A female presented herself to Peter and I this morning but I wasn't to be so lucky a second time. I'd just decided to come away when I noticed a Blue-tailed Damselfly resting near the out-flow from our recently created winter flooding scrape. These are not particularly scarce insects but this is a first for The Common since we started habitat restoration work I think. Who knows what might appear next?
