The bird feeding station, seen from the new viewing screen

I was at Sustead Common this morning doing a bit of work on our new wildlife viewing screen, which looks over the feeding station - it was absolutely alive with birds! Blue and Great Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Robin, Dunnock and Blackbird were all on the various feeders, whilst 53 Siskin were devouring the Alder seeds in the tree directly above me and coming down to the beck to bathe! From the viewing slot which now overlooks the adjacent farmland, a large Hare was sat motionless in the field, warming himself in the morning sunshine. Across the road, in Spurrell's Wood (no general access whilst habitat restoration work is in progress), I disturbed a Woodcock, whilst a male Sparrowhawk drifted over, heading towards the Common. Not bad for an hours wander around!
