Spring has sprung

Singing Blackcap - Spurrell's Wood

I was wandering through Spurrell's Wood the other morning - on my way to top up the bird feeders - when I heard the unmistakable song of a Blackcap. Although I could hear it clearly, it took me quite awhile to actually see it. At one point it was duetting with a Chiffchaff - another summer resident, recently arrived back. By contrast, in the hedge at the Western edge of the wood, was a small flock of winter thrushes - mostly Fieldfare, with a few Redwing mixed in - on the way back to their breeding grounds in Northern Europe & Scandinavia. Spring has well and truly sprung!
