Countdown to Bioblitz 2023 – West Beckham Old Allotments Saturday 24th June 10am to 4pm
The Felbeck Trust monitors wildlife at all its North Norfolk sites year-round, but once a year we take a special ‘deep dive’ in one spot.
Come along and experience this intensive hands-on day, which brings together volunteers, trustees, members of the public, and wildlife identification experts to survey the species of birds, bats, moths, butterflies, bees, flies, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, plants and fungi at the site.
Having as many eyes and ears as possible makes a real difference, and you don’t have to be an expert, or even a grown up, to take part. No need to book, just come along, and we will provide the refreshments. There will also be guided walks and a chance to get involved in identifying moths and mammals from our overnight traps.
Last year (at Sustead) with the public’s help we found and identified 371 different species in one day, 112 of which were recorded at the site for the first time. This exciting information is important in helping us to restore and manage the habitats of our native species.
2023’s event is on Saturday 24th June at West Beckham Old Allotments. It starts at 10am and ends at 4pm.
Please walk or cycle if you can. There is limited car parking at the site and along Allotment Lane if you need to drive. Members of the National Trust may wish to leave their cars at nearby Sheringham Park and walk the short distance to the site, although be aware that the A148 is a very busy road to cross.
On the evening of Friday 23rd June there is the chance to join our experts on bat walks or moth trapping. These activities start at 9.15pm, so are less suitable for children or anyone who likes to go to bed early. Please book for the evening activities by emailing newsletter@felbecktrust.org.uk.
