More seeds!
Another Felbeck Trust tree nursery session took place on Saturday 10th October, with our smallest work party to date. Just three of us headed over to our West Beckham site to collect more seeds in preparation for our tree nursery.
We managed to collect plenty of hawthorn seeds, which are found within the red berries on the hawthorn trees. We were also able to collect a fair number of blackthorn sloe berries, which contain blackthorn seeds. The seeds have been left out for some decomposition to take place, to break down their notoriously high level of dormancy. Volunteer Val had the excellent idea of covering the buckets of seeds with some mesh, to stop critters nibbling at our hard work!
With seed collection having been a success, our next session at East Beckham on Saturday 31st October will see us begin preparing propagation, so we can get seeds into the ground as soon as possible.
