Badge of honour

Felbeck Trust begin habitat management work at the West Beckham Old Allotments

It's a real honour to have been given the opportunity by East & West Beckham Parish Council to create a new wildflower meadow on the site of the old allotments, over the next ten years. We've made a good start by getting the overgrown vegetation cut back and the whole site raked. We've already planted 350 trees and we're preparing to sow some autumn Yellow Rattle to reduce the vigour of the existing rank grassland. But by far the biggest challenge is the rampant growth of Broadleaf Dock rumex obtusifolius which will need systematic control and removal over the next couple of years before the real restoration work can begin. During this work public access will be limited - but please bear with us, it'll be worth it in the end.
