Hard Work and Burgers at West Beckham
On Thursday a group of loyal volunteers and Trustees met at West Beckham Old Allotments for a work party followed by a “Thank you” barbeque.
The day started with clearing around the saplings planted last year.

Once the grass had dried, the rest of the morning was spent scything and raking the meadow area to reduce the fertility of the soil, giving wild flowers a better chance to compete.

As lunch time approached the smell of sizzling beef burgers and vegan sausages wafted across to the workers, who downed tools to enjoy a socially distanced barbeque. Trevor, the Trust’s Chairman, thanked the volunteers for all their hard work over the past year.

After lunch the newly constructed composting toilet was officially opened (having been tested during the morning by various grateful volunteers). David Barrass – who will be taking on the role of Treasurer at the end of this financial year – cut the ribbon.
