Wilder Wardens Join us for a Mini-BioBlitz

A mini-BioBlitz was originally planned for our Wood Norton site on July 11th, but the presence of a couple of large and very active wasp nests caused us to change our plans, and relocate to Sustead. We were pleased that the group of five of Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Wardens (aged 12-15) and their two leaders were still able to come along. Jane had a busy evening and early morning trapping and identifying hundreds of moths, the ringers caught a wide range of bird species, our insect expert spotted a number of new species for the site, and we were able to put our new-found training in identifying aquatic invertebrates to good use. And the whole event was wasp-free!
John Swallow, Chair of North East Norfolk Bird Club, had organised the link-up with NWT, and after the event he wrote a thank you note that summed up the day brilliantly:
“Many thanks again for everyone's efforts at the Sustead BioBlitz yesterday.
I know this wasn’t a full BioBlitz but from everything that was done it really provided lots to see for the NWT young person group.
Val went the extra mile in waders to find stream inverts, and special thanks to Jane and Trevor for being around at “stupid o’clock” to catch some great moths.
Not to mention the excellent cake and coffee :-)
