Busy Bioblitzing

Our annual Bioblitz was held at West Beckham Old Allotments on June 6th-7th. After a number of years’ practice, we have got bioblitzing down to a fine art. On the Saturday evening, we spent some time wandering up and down the green lane and around the site with our bat monitors, while Jane and Trevor were busy setting up the two moth traps.

The next morning Jane and Trevor were up with the lark to check the moth traps. At 8o’clock a group convened to set up the two gazebos – one as Bioblitz HQ and the other as the refreshment tent.

The bird ringing group were there busily setting up their nets By the time the public arrived we were busy recording away – and our experts identified a number of new species for the site.

We had plenty of visitors – existing volunteers, other supporters of Felbeck Trust, family members, and some new contacts.

It was a lovely day with pleasant weather and no rain! A full write-up and the results of the species monitoring will be included in the next newsletter which will appear in July.
