Countdown to Sustead Bioblitz 2022 – everything you need to know
The Felbeck Trust monitors wildlife at all its North Norfolk sites year-round, but once a year we take a special ‘deep dive’ in one spot.
This intensive hands-on day brings together volunteers, trustees, members of the public, and wildlife identification experts to survey the many species of birds, bats, moths, butterflies, bees, flies, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, plants and fungi at the site.
Having as many eyes and ears as possible makes a real difference, and you don’t need to be an expert, or even a grown up, to take part. No need to book, just come along, and we will provide the refreshments.
Last year (at West Beckham Old Allotments) with the public’s help we found and identified 212 species in one day, 84 of which were recorded at the site for the first time. This exciting information is important in helping us to restore and manage the habitats of our native species.
2022’s event is on Saturday 2nd July in Sustead where we manage sites including Sustead Common, the Surveyors Allotment and Spurrell’s Wood. It starts at 10am and ends at 4pm.
There will also be guided walks and a chance to get involved in identifying moths and mammals from our overnight traps. Car parking in Sustead is limited so please walk or cycle if you can. Park in the paddock next to the Old Hall if you do need to drive.
On the evening of Friday July 1st there is the chance to join our experts on bat walks or moth trapping. These activities are after dusk so are less suitable for children or anyone who likes to go to bed early. If you want to come along please email enquiry@felbecktrust.org.uk to book your place. We will notify you of start times in due course.
