There was an early delivery of timber at Wood Norton, received by John before he disappeared elsewhere. The rest of us assembled at Hindolveston – four to go to Wood Norton for crucial construction work, and the rest to stay at Hindolveston for the first half of the morning. The Hindolveston party – which included Becky and Lyndsey from the Hindolveston Eco Club – spent an hour and a half tidying paths (cutting back eternally vigorous bramble and nettle) and raking leaves out of the currently totally dry ponds, using crome rakes to draw soil from the dry bottoms of two ponds to form banks.

Meanwhile, back at the Wood Norton ranch, Trevor, Andrew, Simon and Alan were commencing work to construct a new walkway across approximately 14 metres of wet land (currently fairly dry) to enable us to reach the furthest ponds without using land that is difficult to access.  By the end of the morning, they had made great progress with one side of posts and connecting boards completed. However, there is another day’s work ahead and hopefully before the water level rises too far!

For the second half of the morning, the Hindolveston crew cut back thistles and brambles at Wood Norton and carried timber from the parking area to the construction site. And, as usual, David H was busy, advising us and taking samples.

It was great to have Becky and Lyndsey with us – their enthusiasm and energy were a tonic!

Our next work party is on Thursday October 2nd at Sustead
