Spurrell’s Wood Tidy Up

Ten volunteers descended on Spurrell’s Wood today, November the 4th, and carried out a number of tidying tasks. While John and Sean removed some mud from the pool by the hide, Bev, Peter and Andy, helped by John and Trevor, tackled three hazel clumps, coppicing them to good effect.

Val and Nick created a new parking space next to the old entrance to the wood while Carol and David scythed the last unmown part of the RNV.

Later, Trevor and Sean cleared the rarely-used footpath through the piece of land north of the beck – and put up a woodcock, our first of the year.

Later, the thick grass near the entrance to the hide and the footbridge over the beck to the north side were mown and raked by Carol, Val, Nick and David. All in all, a very useful morning’s work, leaving SW in good shape for the winter. Thanks, as ever, to all who came to help. And to the supplier of doughnuts.
