A lesson in Hazel coppicing in Spurrell's Wood and Sustead Common

Spurrells Wood was opened up for the Lester Explorer Scouts Unit (Sheringham and Cromer) leader to instruct his team in hazel coppicing. This goes towards their environment management awards/badges. Felbeck Trust volunteers were present to learn as well, and we are now proficient in three types of cuts made to produce the perfect coppiced hazel stump!!

A few days later a volunteer work party put our coppicing skills to the test and tackled a few more hazels. We also checked the nest boxes for the coming nesting season, cleared paths and checked signs. Thanks again to the tremendous band of volunteers.
