Sustead Scrape Scraped
Ten volunteers turned up in Sustead this morning, Friday October 22nd. Heavy rain earlier in the week had resulted in the scrape on the Surveyor’s Allotment filling up and overflowing, revealing just how blocked the channels leading both into and out of the scrape had become. So a small Be-wellingtoned group set to with scythes and rakes to clear the growth and the mud, leaving a large area of clear water and water flowing unimpeded into the beck.
Meanwhile, other volunteers cut back the blackthorn that was growing very close to the road near the scrape and mowed the Roadside Nature Reserves, while others cut hedges back and cleared some of the paths in Spurrell’s Wood.
As usual, a very productive morning, helped by the first dry day of the week. Thanks to all who came.
